Just “iPod” name dropped, now “iPod classic”

by Michael Yurechko on Sep 6, 2007 at 01:31 AM

iPod classicToday was a very exciting day for all Apple fans all over the world, but also a sad day. The original iPod which we just called “iPod” is no more, it is now suffixed as the “iPod classic.”

The latest update to the classic was announced today. The device is now available in only silver and black metal casings. Seems like Apple is tossing the “glossy” look on a lot of products lately.

The “new” classic also includes storage upgrades from the previous version of 30 and 80GB to the new versions with 80 and 160GB’s of storage. That’s the ability to carry over 40,000 songs with you, or a lot of videos/movies. The iPod classic also includes all the UI features of the new iPod nanos, e.g. CoverFlow.

Silver iPod ClassicThe classic is available today, and most stores should be stocked up by this weekend. The price point of the new classic is $249 for the 80GB version, and $349 for the 160GB version. This is the same old iPod video with a bunch of new features as well as a lot of extra storage for the same old low price.
