Potential for an Apple netbook?

There’s never a shortage of rumors surrounding Apple’s next move. These rather elegant designs from designer Isamu Sanada show a very intriguing design for a possible MacBook Mini, essentially an Apple netbook.

It features a quite unique two-fold design with the second fold opening to reveal the keyboard. The trackpad looks to be double sided, so it could be used without the keyboard visible if you’re tight for space or simply checking a few things.
The MacBook Mini has a 10” widescreen LED display and features a 128GB solid state drive. The trackpad would most probably be similar to that of the current MacBook range, but, as with the MacBook Air, this would have no optical drive.
Sometimes the rumors and designs that appear online look just as nice, if not nicer than some genuine Apple designs. Of course, a lot of the design is taken from the current line of products, but the two fold layout and the clean finish make this quite an interesting piece. I wonder what Jonathan Ive thinks when he sees concept designs such as these. Would he draw ideas from their designs, or will it always be the other way around?

I don’t think so…Apple needs sell more Macbook Air, they don’t need a netbook.
on January 28, 2009 at 12:07 PM - LINKYes, you’re right. But a device such as this would probably replace the MacBook Air. All Apple say is that they’re keeping a close eye on the netbook market, but as yet have no plans to enter it.
on January 28, 2009 at 12:22 PM - LINKI’m not sure that they should enter it. We know Apple is keeping a “close eye” on the market, but I really don’t see the need for Apple to join the netbook market.
on January 30, 2009 at 08:12 PM - LINKApple will not be able to compete other generic netbooks with their pricing.
