Is Apple bulletproof against RIM?

New York based advertising company, Guava Ad Agency, thought they’d offer Blackberry a helping hand with their Storm handset. Guava made this video independent of Blackberry and to drive people towards their agency, and ultimately the Blackberry Storm. But what if this advert had been genuine? Take a look, if you haven’t already:
It’s a brilliant advert that was cleverly done. Everything about it was right, and it felt a genuine product from Blackberry’s advertising departmentseven though it’s similar to Apple’s kind of adverts. Apparently, Blackberry considered using the advert, or at least the idea, but then decided against it for fear of any repercussions that could occur. There were no actual connections to the Apple brand, so I’m not sure they could touch Blackberry from that aspect. Of course it still “shoots” Apple though, so if it had of been genuine, it would be interesting to watch it pan out.
Should Apple be worried, therefore, of Blackberry; in particular, their first touch screen device: the Storm? As the saying goes, the most sincere form of flattery, is imitation. How could Blackberry and other companies, such as Palm, not look up to Apple for tips on how to pull off the ultimate phone?

I hate when people seem to confuse the Mac with Apple, and they’re all like: “Dude, Mac is going out of business!” (rather out of date example, huh?)
And this is exactly what you did: “Apparently, Blackberry considered using the advert.” Has the Blackberry achieved sentience? :-D Blackberry is the name of the product, the company is called Research in Motion (RIM).
I think the video is stupid, it doesn’t even make a point. Or the whole point was just to make a viral video. At least the Mac vs. PC ads are somewhat funny.
on March 1, 2009 at 08:50 PM - LINKI had the iPhone, but unfortunately, AT&T’s service is pewp where I live, so I returned it, and stayed on Verizon.
I picked up the Storm the day it came out. In two words, “it sucks.”
Not as a phone, mind you, it works as a phone.
But as an email, browsing, texting device? lolz this thing IS pewp!
Its good that RIM didn’t use this ad, because quite honestly, that little Blackberry fired from a pistol would have shattered on that apple, leaving a sticky mess.
on March 2, 2009 at 04:54 AM - LINKI thought it was quite funny, were much in the line of the bantering in the Get a Mac ads. However, the makers of the “ad” need to revise their physics; as soon as the blackberry hits the apple, two exit patterns are shown. Hence it looks as if two blackberries, originally located inside the apple, simultaneously are expelled. Perhaps it’s a Freudian slip; in reality the filmmakers try to tell us that blackberries would be impossible without apples. Also, the apple is more or less functional after the impact, whereas the movie fails to show the fate of the blackberry when, not if!, it hits the wall of the real world.
