iPods outline “dead bodies” in ad campaign

by Stephen Chinnadorai on Jan 11, 2008 at 11:18 AM

Sydney, Austrailia's Police Department campaignThere have been many “anti-iPod” commercials around the world, broadcasted by public service from the government, to try and discourage people from listening to their iPods while walking or cycling. Yet if you look on crowded roads and streets you will see at least 1 person wearing earphones while walking. I do all the time it too - it makes what is normally a boring journey more interesting. So maybe these new ads from the Sydney, Australia Police Department will broadcast the message more clearly.

“Watch for cars when wearing headphones.” They feature a dead body with white iPod earphone wires outlining the body. They will certainly grab people’s attention - and possibly be more effective than enforcing a law. I and many other people I’m sure will continue to wear earphones while walking, but I will certainly be more cautious and take them out when crossing. There have been serious incidents from around the world of people being run over by cars whilst listening to loud music.
