Apple updates iPod touch

Apple has just released a few updates to the ever-popular iPod touch at the music-themed press event in San Francisco. While the device itself has stayed the same, the price has dropped and the memory has expanded.

To go into a little more detail, you can now pick up an 8GB iPod touch for just $199, a 32GB model for $299, andyou guessed ita 64GB model for $399. A 64GB flash drive inside the iPod touch is great. As flash memory is taking off quite quickly now, having 64GB of a storage in your iPod touch means more movies, more music, and whole lot more applications. A problem with the 8/16GB models is that you reach the memory limit way too soon, leaving you without your entire music or movie collection, and desperately waiting for a memory boost. While it’s not close to a nice terabyte of storage, 64GB is certainly a nice enhancement.
The 32 and 64GB iPod touch models are also going to be faster after this update, as Apple are utilizing OpenGLES, which is a way for the software to connect to the embedded graphics within the iPod touch chips. An improved connection between the graphics unit and the device’s processor itself means the experience will be smoother and quicker - a bonus all round.

There’s also a new TV advertisement for the device, which you may see on your TV screens in the coming weeks, or on Apple’s website in a few hours.
While you’re waiting, check back with the Appletell live blog to follow the rest of the action from San Francisco.

I’m not very happy that they managed to give the Nano a camera but not the Touch. A Touch with a camera would have been the perfect present for my daughter. Now I will have to reconsider.
