iPod goes to space
![]()
The iPod has gone to space! TUAW reader Walker saw an iPod in the Endeavour’s cabin window, and submitted the photos. However, this isn’t the first time the popular music player has left it’s origin of Earth. TUAW has put together a short but detailed list showing numerous space events involving the iPod. The first even is when Jules Verne, an unmanned spacecraft, docked with the International Space Station. Where is the iPod in this, you ask. An iPod containing songs chosen by a contest winner was actually brought to the International Space Station on Jules Verne. A second time the iPod has been in space was when Leland Melvin took an iPod to the International Space Station last month on Atlantis, loaded with songs by Christina McBride, and even some songs he composed himself. A third time the iPod has gone to space was on Charlie Hobaugh’s 13 day mission, who allowed his kids to choose what songs to put on his iPod for him.
Of course, you can’t just bring any old iPod to space. Alkaline batteries must replace the standard lithium batteries, and the iPods cannot be brought onto the Space Station itself.
