iPhones used in Craigslist scam

by Mark Rowland on Jun 13, 2008 at 05:08 PM

In an attempt to exploit the popularity of the Apple iPhone, four New York men have been arrested and charged with robbery and possession of a weapon. Michel Origval, Elorge Zamy, Ulyses Campbell and Christopher Thervil would put posts on Craigslist, advertising the sale of bulk amounts of iPhones. Then, after a meeting place had been arranged, the men would attack the interested buyer and take the money he brought to pay for the iPhones and any other items of value he had on him.

The men were caught in the act during an NYPD sting operation, and they have been proven to have committed at least 4 of the 12 robberies that have taken place since March.

Wow, that’s terrible! I’m glad these guys got caught.

Yeah, but in the end, no matter how terrible, it is a true testament to the iPhone’s popularity.
