Elgato launches EyeTV Live3G web app to stream TV over 3G

Elgato, the creator of a variety of TV-on-your-computer products and applications, has added some interesting functionality to v3.3 of the EyeTV software. According to their site, users will now be able to “stream live television over a 3G connection to an iPhone, and watch live TV and EyeTV recordings anywhere.”

Using new HTTP streaming technology, the web app will find your Mac or iPhone and then stream high quality video to them using their new web app. If you are a current user, the web app is available now at live3g.eyetv.com, and the free update can be found simply by searching for updates using your current software. If you’re looking to get into EyeTV, their tuners can be purchased at Apple Stores.

Interestingly enough, Elgato has taken the time to incorporate use of the iPhone’s hardware acceleration to allow for better performance and battery life while using the new web app on the go. Either way, I’d assume the quality is pretty good, seeing as how the main core of Elgato’s products are focused around watching this video from different sources, so they’re certainly experienced with this sort of stuff.
