iPhone 3G sales twice as fast as first gen iPhone sales

by Josh Holat on Jul 23, 2008 at 03:12 PM

Apple StockTaking the first two weeks or so of the first gen iPhone sales in comparison to the iPhone 3G sales will show that the iPhone 3G sales are about twice as fast. The main reasons for this differential are most likely the lower initial price, as well as the hot, new software. Chief executive Randall Stephenson said, “In the days following our exclusive U.S. launch of this new device, powered by the nation’s fastest 3G wireless network, customer response has been everything we had anticipated and more.“  This news comes along with large Apple 3Q profits, which took place even before the iPhone was released.

Although we won’t know for certain how many iPhones were sold until Apple tells us, it is definitely a lot more than the first generation (keep in mind, it was released in many more countries this time). Despite the activation problems, the iPhone 3G still managed to sell out in pretty much every single location except eBay. This product has been a huge success for both Apple and AT&T, and I don’t see it stopping anytime soon.
