iPhone 3G coming to Russia

by Michael Goonan on Aug 23, 2008 at 03:52 PM

iPhone 3GWith the announcement of the iPhone 3G at WWDC also came the announcement of the iPhone’s expansion into a plethora of new countries. Reuters reports that Russia will now join that list.

Apple Inc has agreed a distribution deal with carrier Mobile TeleSystems on the sale of iPhones in Russia, one of the world’s fastest growing markets for mobile telephone handsets, a market source said.

“MTS has made an agreement with Apple on the sale of iPhones,” the source said. “Sales are likely to begin in October.”

Apple, as is to be expected, would not comment on the matter, nor would Mobile TeleSystems.

Provided this is true, this is huge for Apple as the Russian mobile phone market is one of the largest and fastest growing in the world.
