iPhone 3.0 update issues
iPhone OS 3.0 has only been out for a couple of hours, and already we’re seeing some weird behavior. Case in point? This image, in which one of our staff members found an odd GUI issue in his Favorites screen. As far as update problems go, this, of course, is nothing; as long as everything is functioning properly and no data is lost, you have to consider it a successful upgrade. But, as with most software updates, anomalies are bound to arise.
I haven’t personally updated yet, as I haven’t been back to my MacBook yet today. If any issues should surface during or after the process, I’ll be sure to let you know. In the meantime, if you’ve already updated, let us know how it went.
iPhone OS 3.0 is available through iTunes for free for iPhone owners, and $9.95 for owners of the iPod touch.

I can not upgrade due to server errors. Am I the only one out there, or is this widespread?
on June 17, 2009 at 02:24 PM - LINKI imagine their server is taking quite a hit right now. I haven’t tried yet, but will report back if it’s still an issue when I finally get to my MacBook.
on June 17, 2009 at 02:36 PM - LINKI upgraded my iphone and all I am left with is the emergency phone screen. At the end of the download itunes restarted my iphone but the screen I got was looking for a sim card that did not require an un lock code. can anybody help?

on June 17, 2009 at 02:44 PM - LINKIt’s possible iTunes is unable to reactivate your phone due to the iTunes server being down. Hopefully, waiting a bit will solve the issue, but I’ll see what else we can turn up.
on June 17, 2009 at 02:53 PM - LINKThanks, Kirk, I’ll wait

on June 17, 2009 at 03:02 PM - LINKWaiting cured the problem. Thanks again

on June 17, 2009 at 03:18 PM - LINKTo those of you who are stuck in an emergency mode, just keep trying. I kept getting an error saying that “itunes couldn’t access the itunes store” or something like that and I just kept clicking back and forth between my music and the iphone. After about 15 tries or more I finally got through and the phone activated. Just keep trying!!!
on June 17, 2009 at 03:36 PM - LINKI’ve been trying to update to 3.0 from about 3:30 pm and it keeps telling me that my iPhone activation server is temperarily unavailable and i should try again later
on June 17, 2009 at 04:21 PM - LINKGlad to hear it, Martin. I’m updating now. I guess it pays to wait a while to avoid this kind of thing…or do it right away!
on June 17, 2009 at 04:22 PM - LINKUpgraded this AM. Seemed OK at the beginning. Now Safari behaving sluggishly. Can’t seem to upload photos from the Facebook app, just keeps hanging on the “uploading” part. Did think some games played better, specificall Wild West Pinball. All my bookmarks were duplicated. Still trying to sort that out. Trying to upgrade wifes phone at 4pm CST and getting the Apple iTunes server error message.
on June 17, 2009 at 04:24 PM - LINKI downloaded the GM yesterday and so far so good!! My 3G seems snappier, and I am enjoying the new features for sure. I even got tethering to work (ssshhhhhh!!!!!). I had heard that those that got tethering to work could not get it to wrk over BT with any of the new Unibody Macbooks….well, I can tell you it does. I have the original Unibody Macbook 13 and it took 2 times of trying to connect, but so far so good…and not too sluggish when on 3G. I am plenty pleased, so much so that I will not be taking advantage of AT&T’s new offer for early 3G buyers.
on June 17, 2009 at 04:46 PM - LINKI went through the process and updated the software on my iPhone around 10:30 this morning. I received an error message and anyways I had to then restore my iPhone and the whole process took quite some time. It was actually pretty sketchy. Now all my music is gone/off my iPhone and I have noticed that there is something wrong with the 3.0 software update on my phone. In the messages I can not send any pictures or anything. I am completely without the ability to even try so. I think the software may have downloaded wrong and would like to try downloading it again. I don’t know how to download 3.0 again on my iPhone though. Any ideas?
on June 17, 2009 at 07:21 PM - LINKMy husband and I updated to 3.0 just now, so far everything is okay on the Iphone. Except! We have a Audioengine gadget that allows us to play our iPod through the stereo - that doesn’t work anymore. It’s bad because we just bought it! This means no 3.0 for the iPod touch!!
on June 17, 2009 at 09:01 PM - LINKHas anyone had issues getting the download to install? I keep getting to about 90MB and then it stops.
on June 17, 2009 at 10:18 PM - LINKiPhone 3.0 made my phone go Japenese…. See link.
on June 18, 2009 at 06:07 AM - LINKI’ve been trying to update my iPhone 3G to the 3.0 software for five days now with no luck. Apple support tells me to wait & try later, but they’ve been saying that for five days now.
on June 21, 2009 at 06:32 PM - LINKMan, Chris. I’ve updated three phones now with no problem. What time of day are you doing it?
on June 21, 2009 at 08:59 PM - LINKI’v updated my iphone 3.0 and itunes has restarted my phone. but when i come to activating it, the phone just shows the emergency call page. and on the itunes screen it says
“There was an error in the itunes store. please try again later”
iv been trying again for the past 2 hours and nothing has happened.
can someone please tell m what to do
on June 22, 2009 at 04:01 PM - LINKBest we can suggest is to just do what it says…try again later. Annoying, yeah, but you will eventually get through. You’ve completed the update, but can’t get into iTunes to reactivate your phone with the software.
on June 22, 2009 at 04:29 PM - LINKI updated my iPhone and everything seemed to go ok, but when i go to my mail, it starts to check for mail then boots me out to the desktop. Has anyone else seen this? Solutions?

on June 23, 2009 at 11:13 AM - LINKHi
I have updated my iphone and it all seems to work fine but for some reason not one of my songs work. I added a song after updating my phone and that song works fine??? Is there a way of fixing this problem without taking the songs off itunes and my phone and adding them again which is a major time killer considering i have around 1000.
Can someone please help me?

on June 23, 2009 at 01:11 PM - LINKIn response to my previous problem with mail, Apple told me this is a known problem with 3.0 and that I should delete all mail accounts, hard reset then re-add them. They said this has been working, I have not tried it yet though. Hope this helps others.
