Not a minute too soon, cut, copy and paste is now here on the iPhone and iPod touch. It would seem Kevin Rose knew exactly what he was talking abouthe got things pretty accurate compared with the demonstration given by Scott Forstall, Apple’s Senior Vice President for iPhone Software.
So how’s it work? Well, quite simply. You double-tap on a piece of text and a pop up menu will appear with the options cut, copy and paste. At either end of the highlighted text, there are markers. You drag these markers to extend the amount of text you want to cut or copy. Pasting the text is as you’d expect; double-tap in the place, and select paste.
This works throughout all applications, so you can copy text from a text message into an email, or into the Google search bar in Safari. If you’ve made an error with the copying and pasting, simply shake your device and another pop-up menu will appear, with the options to undo, or redo. Quite intuitive controls, wouldn’t you say?
As well as standard text, you can also copy content from a web page. But not just the text…you can also copy images. Can you guess what I’m going at here? Well, the SMS application has been renamed to Messages, and you can copy and paste images? You guessed correct! MMS is also included in OS 3.0. But you can find out more about that later.
