iPhone 3.0 Beta 2 still broken…sort of
I have been working with the 3.0 software for the iPhone for a few days now, and I really wish they would fix it. I have actually lost some functionality, along with gaining all of the new features. Before I upgraded, when I got either a MobileMe or an Exchange e-mail, the phone would venerably “ding” with a short vibration. I loved it and used it many times a day. It is broken with 3.0. MMS and Tethering do not work without some serious modifications to the code, although I don’t have the right to complain about the MMS and Tethering, as this was in the disclaimer when I flashed the phone using Xcode. As far as the e-mail goes, this is a known bug, and Apple’s engineers are working on a fix.
The strange thing is that not everyone is having the issue. The problem is in the fact that MobileMe and my Exchange server at work do not know where my phone is. I am able to retrieve my e-mail manually, but there are no “push” notifications like I used to get. I understand that it’s a Beta and things like this are going to happen, but it should not break something that was working before. I can understand if copy and paste doesn’t work or landscape mode is flaky, but don’t break something that was working.
I am not allowed to disclose proprietary Apple information, but trust me, I will be watching closely and provided an update when there is one. Let me know if you are experiencing any issues and what they are with 3.0.

on April 6, 2009 at 09:08 PM - LINKHis point is that things that weren’t broken before, are in the latest version. That’s not generally how betas work.
on April 6, 2009 at 09:59 PM - LINKI have been having all kinds of problems. I looked into downgrading back to 2.2.1 because I cannot depend on my phone anymore. The phone crashes on frequent occasions. Yes I know it’s a beta, and I believe they will work those bugs out.
The biggest problem I’ve been experiencing is with the maps application. Ever since updating to 3.0 Beta I literally cannot use it. It hangs trying to load the map images and sits for about 2 minutes before the app crashes and returns me to the home screen. Maps is 100% useless for me right now.
on April 8, 2009 at 10:34 AM - LINKsometimes i can’t text or look at the map while listening to my ipod without it crashing. I cant make a on the go playlist it picks songs that I didnt pick mms works for me because i tweaked my at&t plan and .gif files are not shown very well.
on April 8, 2009 at 02:38 PM - LINKMy iPhone has taken a complete dump on 3.0. I can only get a plug into itunes screen, and nothing seems to be able to pull it out of it. The people at the Apple store couldnt even figure it out. Quite bummed at the moment.
