iPhone 2.0 software to improve data erasing?

by Josh Holat on Jun 26, 2008 at 05:25 AM

Erase iPhone ScreenNew information shows that the new software coming out for the iPhone will make erasing all of your data more secure and trustworthy. If you’ll remember, the current version of the iPhone software has an option to “erase all contents and settings,” but some users found out the hard way that this might not be very secure.  According to MacNN, sources close to Apple are saying that the iPhone software 2.0 should offer a more secure complete data erase. Think “Secure Empty Trash” versus simply “Empty Trash” on your desktop.

At first, this sounds great, but there is a down side, depending on how you look at it. Although the process assures you your data will be completely gone by deleting, un-linking, and writing over it, it will take about an hour.

This option along with the option for a remote wipe in the new software, will help make your iPhone and personal data much more secure, so keep up the good work Apple.
