iPhone 2.0 software now available [update]

Go ahead and plug your iPhone into your computer. iPhone 2.0 is now available and ready to download. This update will allow you to run all of the iPhone Apps you downloaded yesterday (you did go ahead and get a jump on that, right?). Just think…while all those poor souls are stuck in line trying to activate their new iPhone 3G, you can be playing iPhone games.
The update is 218MB. I’m downloading mine now. If you have any troubles with the update, be sure to let us know.
Update: Oh boy, are there troubles. Updating restored my iPhone to the factory settings. Not sure if this is the default, or if I did something wrong. Regardless, I have to connect the iPhone to the iTunes Store to reactivate my account, and that just ain’t gonna happen right now. With all of the original iPhone owners updating to 2.0 and the new iPhone 3G owners trying to register, iTunes is dead. I’ve been trying to access the iTunes store for nearly an hour now, with no luck. I’ll report back here when I get through. You do the same.
Update (again): Okay, I’m in. The update went smoothly beyond the delay. All of my settings remained, and no information was lost. Now, the fun begins.

still 347 / 348?
on July 11, 2008 at 08:42 AM - LINKSo here’s the million dollar question… I currently have a jailbroken/unlocked iphone in the Netherlands… and I have a T-Mobile SIM card (which is the iphone service provider). If I update to 2.0, will my phone “work” or will it be bricked?
on July 11, 2008 at 09:07 AM - LINKVersion number is 2.0 (5A347)
on July 11, 2008 at 09:32 AM - LINKWell, it appears my phone restored successfully but after the phone rebooted, I repeatedly get this error:
“We could not complete your iTunes Store request. An unknown error occured (-4).”
on July 11, 2008 at 11:42 AM - LINKIt’s having trouble syncing up with your account through iTunes. I had the same problem for quite a while, but it eventually did its job.
on July 11, 2008 at 12:52 PM - LINKwelll ive been doing this since 8 o clock this morning trying to get this update done…well i installed the 2.0 software then it said its restarting…once it restarted it wont let me authorize my phone ....so i now have an unusable phone….wow useful well if anyone has any suggesions please post..thanks
on July 11, 2008 at 01:35 PM - LINKIt may have just been lucky timing, but I was finally able to get in by repeatedly click back and forth between my iPhone and iPod in iTunes. About five or six times, I got the error message when clicking on the iPhone. When I finally did connect, it happened almost immediately. It’s possible that waiting for the connection will work, but I was too impatient to find out for sure.
on July 11, 2008 at 01:55 PM - LINKi hate this lol it looks like they would have enough sense to know how many people would be on with the 3g and trying to get the 2.0 update…shouldve released 23.0 3 days ago
on July 11, 2008 at 01:58 PM - LINKomg wow its finally doing it i believe .... any nice apps you suggest
on July 11, 2008 at 02:00 PM - LINKJon: I would try out Twitterific (if you like Twitter) as well as the Remote application made by Apple. Also, the AOL Streaming Radio is sort of neat.
on July 11, 2008 at 02:13 PM - LINKive never used twitter whats it all about..or do you have an msn messenger? if youd like to chat at all im bored waiting for mine to restore lol
on July 11, 2008 at 02:19 PM - LINKJon: I’m doing the same thing, waiting for it to activate. Twitter is a highly addictive social networking site that consists of short messages to answer the questions, “What are you doing?” Check it out at twitter.com, you will become addicted.
on July 11, 2008 at 02:26 PM - LINKhaha ok i will
on July 11, 2008 at 02:27 PM - LINKI’ve tried plugging my phone in several times today and it keeps telling me my software is already the current version, even though I know it is the February 1.1.4 (whatever) release. Any ideas?
on July 11, 2008 at 02:33 PM - LINKAndrew: You can manually update the software using the post I wrote about the early 2.0 leak about yesterday. However, downloading the 2.0 software from Apple is going to take a very long time no matter what you do. You may be better off waiting until this whole mess is cleared up.
on July 11, 2008 at 02:36 PM - LINKYeah, I’ve been having the same problem with updating my iPhone to 2.0. It keeps telling me that the version 1.1.4 is the current version. I called the Apple support line and waited for 30 minutes. Then I was told to remove all of the iTunes and QuickTime Player installs from my computer and to reinstall iTunes 7.7. Then it again told me that I already have the current version. I brought this up with the customer service rep and she put me on hold to ask about it. Minutes later, she came back to tell me that because so many people have been updating their old phones and activating new phones that they are not letting old iPhones to update until about noon tomorrow. Too much traffic or something I guess. That was kinda stupid on their part. Now us old phone owners have to wait? That makes me rather upset. What they should’ve done is let us update our phones at least a day before the 3G came out. That way we would’ve not had this annoying nuisance. Anyway, going to keep trying… Worse comes to worse, it “should” be ready tomorrow.
on July 11, 2008 at 04:09 PM - LINKI originally got the 1.14 is up to date as well. Just tried it again 5 mins ago and was able to download the software. Installing now. Keep trying.
