Finance software company Intuit has or is in the process of rewriting it’s popular Quicken and TurboTax titles for the Mac, from scratch.

Quicken dates back to OS 9, and is a Carbon app. The new version of Quicken, completely re-written, will be called “Quicken Financial Life for Mac.“ MacRumors reports it will include many Mac OS X technologies and features:

• Cocoa based
• CoreData for information storage
• Universal Binary
• Mac OS 10.5 Leopard Only
• Coverflow and other Mac OS specific views

The new version will be sparer in features than the current versions at first, as it is being completely re-written. For instance, it will start with very limited support for investments. It will fully work with cash-flow accounts, and TurboTax and DirectConnect/WebConnect support will be in the version. Pricing is not yet available.

TurboTax also saw a rewrite, though without as many huge features. MacRumors list of Mac-only features in the new Turbo Tax:

• A form view that is always accessible and flips into view. Users who are used to filling out paper forms can switch between the interview and the form at any time.
• Save returns to iDisk
• Archive return and TurboTax 2008 to CD
• Create multiple returns (good for figuring out if you want to file jointly or separately)
