Instinctiv Shuffle brings a smarter shuffle feature to jailbroken iPhones and iPod touches

by Patrick Lutz on Jun 29, 2008 at 05:45 PM

Instinctiv ShuffleA new and fairly amazing third-party application for jailbroken iPhones/iPod touches, known as Instinctiv Shuffle, modifies your device’s shuffle feature to use its own, which monitors which songs you are skipping through and the ones you are actually listening to. The app then uses this data to detect which songs you’re in the mood for, and plays them in a random sequence. The app’s developer, Instinctiv, has managed to raise $750,000 in funding for its application from Cayuga Venture Fund and Rosetech Ventures.

The reason for creating such a useful app was the problem that the standard shuffle feature leaves users skipping through more songs instead of letting people enjoy the music they want to hear. The goal of Instinctiv’s Shuffle app was to fix this problem, and it did a very good job at it by using your skip behavior to know exactly what you want to hear. Personally, I love this application and believe it does an exceptional job at figuring out exactly which artists and songs you want to listen to just by gathering information about the songs that you’ve skipped.

The company plans to begin raising a Series A around this fall, with a target goal of around $5 million. You can download Instinctiv’s Shuffle application from Installer.app directly on your iPhone or iPod touch, and you can find a detailed guide on how to do that at Instinctiv’s download section. Keep in mind that you need a jailbroken iPhone or iPod touch in order to use this application, and you may find a guide for easily jailbreaking your iPhone at Instinctiv’s web site.
