Based in China and Taiwan, Innolux has secured touch panel orders from Apple, and will begin shipping them soon according to industry leaders. Although Innolux will not comment on this issue nor confirm the orders are, in fact, from Apple, the touch panels are very similar to those used by Apple. We do not know how many of these screens have been ordered, but Innolux’s largest factory can produce 100,000 a month. Innolux will be very busy.
Electronista points out that Apple usually goes with a different company, Wintek, for their iPhone and iPod Touch panels. Therefore, Apple’s supplier switch could mean they want to vamp up production to make sure they meet demand, or they may be simply using Innolux to produce a different touch panel device we don’t know about yet. Either way, this deal can only lead to good for consumers.
