iFixIt is a widely known company that immediately gets their hands on Apple’s newest products solely to take them apart for our gratification. It’s no surprise, then, that they have already managed to do the same for the Magic Mouse just days after it hit the market. Using a solid acrylic surface, the Magic Mouse is the world’s first multi-touch mouse, sporing a sleek, minimalistic design. In their disassembly, the iFixIt team found the hardware to be held together by large amounts of glue versus screws. More interesting, though, was that they found the entire surface to be covered with touch sensors.
If you are interested in the specific technical aspects, you will find that Apple is using the Broadcom BCM2042A4KFBGH Bluetooth chip to communicate wirelessly with the mouse. This chip has been designed to keep price in mind, but that didn’t stop Apple from setting the price point of this innovative new mouse to $69. That said, it will come with the new iMacs and may really be worth the money due to the awesome touch technology it incorporates. Ever since I’ve gotten my MacBook Pro, one of my favorite features was the large multi-touch trackpad, so I can certainly see this becoming a hot product for the iMac. That, and it may finally fix the issues with dirt getting stuck in that miserable track ball on the Mighty Mouse.
