How to make a retro game collection on your iPhone

by Katie Gatto on Jan 3, 2010 at 10:27 AM

Retro games can be a lot of fun. They are a blast from the past for players old enough to remember when they were new, and they can be a new insight into gaming for younger players. Setting up and maintaining older systems is a lot less fun. If you are determined never to blow on another cartridge again, these titles can help:

Space Invaders: Infinity Gene

Seller: Taito Corp.
Compatibility: iPhone or iPod Touch
Requirements: iPhone OS 3.0 or higher
File Size: 24.6MB
Price: $4.99
Age Rating: 4+

Space Invaders may be the most iconic retro game of them all. If carrying around an Atari is a bit too much for you, then you can take it mobile on your iPhone. This game has both the classic feel and the sound, so if you are playing on an iPod touch it is worth getting out your headphones for this game. You will miss out if you don’t.

Get ready for all the line based shooter action that you can handle.

Mega Man II

Seller: Capcom
Compatibility: iPhone and iPod touch
Requirements: iPhone OS 3.0 or higher
File Size: 13.1MB
Price: $0.99
Age Rating: 9+

If you miss your SNES games, this application is for you. Recently upgraded, the 1.5 version has made the controls easier to use and the sound. Just be aware that you won’t be able to save from the menu.

Mega Man II

Granted, it’s not exactly the same as the original game, but it still has the look, feel and sounds.

B.I.T.S. Pinball Free

Seller: Blue Bear Studio
Compatibility: iPhone or iPod touch
Requirements: iPhone OS 1.1 or higher
File Size: 10.2MB
Price: Free
Age Rating: 4+

Pinball is the oldest of all of the retro games, and now you can get your hands on in on you phone. All of the fun of bouncing a shiny metal ball, without the pain of flipper button hand pain. You can even get the retro feel of the clacks and beeps with this game.

The best part is that it is free. If you don’t like it, you did not waste any money on the game.
