Had bad 3G reception before? Firmware 2.0.2 gets rid of it completely…

by Jake Gaecke on Aug 20, 2008 at 07:28 AM

iPhone 2.0.2 reception issuesFor many users, firmware update 2.0.2 was supposed to be the fix for 3G reception issues. I say supposed to be, because apparently, instead of fixing the iPhone’s hefty signal strength requirements for 3G, it makes that already bad reception worse for some users.

According to iPhoneAtlas, some 3G users are unable to get wireless access of any sort without disabling the option for 3G. Here’s what an Apple Discussions poster had to say:

I use to get 1-3 bars of 3g service in my house and now I cant make a call… I have to switch off the 3G to get any bars Things are going the wrong way!

The article goes on to detail some reports of apps failing to load on the new 2.0.2 firmware.

The new firmware didn’t bring bugs alone; it actually did fix a few things. Typing and scrolling are now at more of an acceptable speed for most users. Though, again, keyboard lag is still reported by some. I can attest to having some keyboard lag intermittently, but, over all, I’ve noticed the iPhone to be a bit quicker. Specifically, swiping through pages of icons on the home screen is much faster for me.

What have you noticed about the new firmware, good or bad?  Do you regret “upgrading?”

If anything, I gained a bar of 3G service.  For the most part nothing changed.

Does appleTell ever follow the news?

2.0.2 DOES fix the 3G problems… but we all have to wait until (at least) 75% of the country is using 2.0.2.

Until that time… non-2.0.2 users are still affecting 2.0.2 users.

Old article, Patty. We posted this article before the details of the slow updaters were announced, and you’ll see if you look back that we covered that, too.
