Google to boost GMail storage

by Marvin Sum on Oct 16, 2007 at 10:20 AM

GMail seems to be one of the most popular email services available today, whether you use it on the iPhone or not. Unfortunately, a select number of users seem to be consuming a lot of storage space, especially for storing attachments like PDF documents and pictures.

In a blog post on the Official GMail Blog, Google Engineer Rob Siemborski says that “a few (users) are using Gmail so much that (they’re) running out of space, so to make good on our promise, today we’re announcing we are speeding up our counter and giving out more free storage”. GMail currently offers 2.9GB of storage, although you can increase that by paying for more. In contrast, both Hotmail and Yahoo offer 5GB and “unlimited storage”, respectively.
