Google bringing Picasa to Mac OS X
Picasa has been a popular and successful photo organizing tool from Google, for Windows, for a long time now. I guess Google never thought about bringing it to the Mac because, let’s face it, iPhoto has everything you need already. I was surprised when I heard that Google is going to launch a Mac version of Picasa. I’m not so sure this app will do so well - seeing as the majority of Mac users will either use iPhoto or Aperture to manage their photo libraries. And as for online photo storage, Flickr and .Mac seem to be popular amongst Mac users. But then again, they brought Google Desktop to the Mac - a direct competitor with one of Tiger and Leopard’s most notable features.
Duncan Riley of TechCrunch was lucky enough at the Macworld Expo this year to dig out the truth out of an unexperienced Google employee. It “is under development and will be launched later this year”. I guess I can’t complain about a product that isn’t launched yet. For Windows users, it’s probably the best application for free. But if you have the latest version of iPhoto, I can’t see a reason to switch.

Still waiting for Picasa though…......
on November 3, 2008 at 11:39 AM - LINKI finally switched over to the Mac side after months of contemplating the move. Very happy with the switch. The only thing I miss is Picasa. Picasa for Mac cannot come soon enough! IPhoto is very disappointing. I am very surprised that Apple completely missed the mark on this one. Please Google hurry up!
I’ll be sure to set up a Google alert to make sure I don’t miss it when it is rolled out.
on November 26, 2008 at 09:51 AM - LINKiPhoto is the SHAME of the Mac. Apple is famous for well-thought-out interfaces and clean, understandable design. iPhoto fails miserably. I am a Mac Fanboy from 1984, but also use Windows. I am biased strongly to the Mac, but find iPhoto drastically inferior to Picasa. Apple should totally re-do it, or just package up the coming Picasa-for-Mac and tiptoe away from the interface abomination that is iPhoto.
on November 28, 2008 at 05:40 PM - LINKI’ve been working on PC and Macs for years at my school and the only program I hate with a passion is I-photo. Picassa is elegant and a pleasure to work with. We made the switch back to Mac at home after years of not having a Mac and all I am with I-photo is frustrated. With only a couple of weeks left in 2008 will we see Picassa rolled out for the Mac? I doubt it but what a wonderful Xmas present that would be!
