Game developers happy about iPhone SDK

Apple taking on PSP and Nintendo DS?

In a recent post I predicted about how Apple will use the iPhone as a gaming platform, and I’m not the only one excited. The iPhone Software Development Kit (SDK), will enable anyone in the ADC, Apple Developer Connection to download the software and test and build apps for the iPhone. Later in the year, an update will be pushed to all iPhone users, iPhone 2.0 and will come with the “App Store”, app. Developers of EA and various other companies believe that Apple is piushing the iPhone as a gaming platform.

“This is the coolest thing I’ve seen in game development in 15 years, except maybe for the Nintendo Wii,” said Glenda Adams, director of development for long-time Mac game publisher Aspyr Media.

EA, Electronic Arts and SEGA both showed off iPhone game that they both built in under 2 weeks. EA confirmed that they will be making an iPhone-specific version of Spore. SEGA introduced a iPhone version of Super Monkey Ball and we are sure to see many more games on the iPhone.

Apple has so far succeeded breaking into the mobile-phone business, can they conquer gaming as well?
