Free apps roundup for November 21, 2008
I didn’t intend this, but the majority of the apps on my list this week involve cards. There’s just something about card games that keeps players coming back. Sure, you can run around in the newest FPS and frag opponents at 50+ frames per second, but after a while, you might find yourself getting bored. And that’s when I turn to solitaire. I really don’t know what it is about card games, but here’s a few along with some other great free apps.
- Bathroom Break Free Cell - To my knowledge, this is the only game that targets iPhone users in the bathroom. So much so that the cards actually have toilet seats on them. The developer intends you to play Free Cell while going to the bathroom. Personally, I’d play this anywhere but the bathroom, but that’s just me.
- iSpades Lite - Hey another card game. You guessed it, this is spades for free. You can play spades against 3 computer opponents. What else is there to say really?
- iRewardCards Lite - Lose all of those stupid reward club cards from your keychain. This app keeps track of the barcodes on those keychains so you can just flip to the correct one and have the cashier scan your iPhone. It will definitely be a little strange at first, and they might even question if you are trying to hack their system or something, but it should all be fine. The only downer about this app is that the Lite version only keeps track of 2 barcodes. Still worth a try.
- Google Mobile App - I’m certain that you’ve already heard all about the copious amounts of fun that you can have by speaking your search queries to your iPhone with this app, but I just couldn’t resist putting this on the list. It really is an awesome app that still has a lot of room to expand. Sooner or later, I have a feeling this app will turn into a pretty good voice dialer as well. Download it. Download it now.
- Backgrounds - I tend to keep the background image on my iPhone the same for very long periods of time. But you aren’t me, and that’s why this app might be just the one for you. You can browse and download over 1,000 backgrounds. Will it be enough? Only one way to find out.
- Zynga - Live Poker - It’s the most popular poker game on MySpace and Facebook, and now it’s on the iPhone. You get 1,000 chips every day that you log in to play, and you’re playing against real people. It supports the iPod touch, too. If you love poker, you’ll love this.
