Free Apps Roundup for November 14, 2008

by Jake Gaecke on Nov 14, 2008 at 09:04 AM

Free apps roundup for November 14, 2008It seems that the App Store has really been teeming with new apps lately. If I remember correctly, the newly released apps average somewhere near 80 per day. Not too bad. And developers aren’t neglecting previously released apps.  No no, they keep getting updated as well. Here are some apps that are not only great, but also free. What more could you ask for, really?

  • RovioDriver - As if you needed another reason to order yourself a Rovio to patrol around you apartment while you are out. It’s easily the coolest webcam around. It has a ton of wheels and a camera all at your control through an internet connected computer and now, your iPhone. If you’ve got a Rovio, you need this app.
  • FuguMaze - This app generates random 3D mazes. Then, it’s your turn to act like a lab rat and make your way out. The graphics look pretty decent for a free offering. So go on, find your way out already.
  • i.TV - I’ve listed it once before, but i.TV got updated again and now it’s even more awesome. Added features include Wikipedia and Netflix integration. If it’s media, chances are you can find it here.
  • Eureka - Here’s another Wikipedia viewer for your iPhone. It formats Wikipedia for your screen just like all the others, but it also stores pages in its cache for offline browsing. I’m guessing it doesn’t download Wikipedia in its entirety, so you probably can’t just view everything offline, but for free, it’s a pretty good start. Give it a try if you’re on the fence about buying a Wikipedia app.
  • Fake-A-Call - Another great call faking app. You can edit all of the details involved with faking a call to your iPhone, or less believably, your iPod touch. But don’t limit yourself to getting out of family gatherings, bad blind dates, or friends who just won’t stop trying to be around you. Use this app to impress your friends by taking calls from Jobs himself. He calls me all the time to ask for ideas.
  • DigiDrummer Lite - Drum to your heart’s content on your iDevice. It even authentically recreates how no drummer can actually keep time as accurately as the rest of the band would like. OK, that’s not completely true, it’s a latency issue that has more to do with the iPhone’s hardware than the drummer, but a drummer would say that.
