Free Apps roundup for November 13th, 2009

There are plenty of freebies on the App Store this week. Thanks to ngmoco, we have another superb game, as if Eliminate wasn’t quite enough last week. But don’t worry, there’s more. We have other games, utilities, etc.

  • Touch Pets Dogs - Hey ngmoco, you’re becoming a regular on the top of my list.  This week, ngmoco is back with another free game, and it’s not unlike the Tamagotchis I, for some reason, still have fond memories of.  Everyone loves puppies, especially ones you can turn off.  A great part of having a virtual pet is that you don’t have to pick up virtual poo, or take virtual walks.  Well, you might, but still, it’s not nearly as unfun as the real thing.  This game is sure to make me feel like I’m back in 5th grade again, which is refreshing, since acting like I’m in middle school is getting a little old for me right now.
  • Blue FiRe - The must-have app for Blue microphones’ Mikey.  It’s a CD quality mic for the iPhone and iPod touch.  This app interfaces with that and allows you to record at stereo CD quality and view an audio waveform of that recording as it’s being made.  This app, along with a Mikey, could really prove to be a great mobile recording solution.
  • iDraw Dialer - Why tap a contact’s name when you can draw a picture?  That’s what this app asks.  You can define shapes for contacts and then dial their phone numbers whenever you draw that shape into the app. Some ideas for you would be a heart for a loved one, a house for your home phone, a circle for the pizza guy, and a bomb for…well, whoever.  I have Kirk’s (the editor in chief) shape set as a skull and cross bones. You know, like poison.
  • iMediaShare - If you have a PS3 or other UPnP device, you might be interested in pushing images wirelessly from your iPhone to it with this app. With this you can not only view images on your TV, but you can download them to devices like the PS3.  The only thing that worries me about this app is that its version number is 0.7, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it doesn’t work flawlessly.
  • pocket BLU - While you’re throwing pictures at your PS3 with the last app, you might enjoy controlling Blu-ray playback with this remote app.  Sadly, it doesn’t work with every Blu-ray, but for the ones it does, it will control playback and even let you view some special bonus content.
  • Melodica (Free) - I’m sure at least one of you has heard of the tenori-on, and likely knows how overpriced it is.  This app isn’t overpriced, and it attempts to replicate the tenori-on in app form.  It’s a musical instrument mixed with fun lights, and just about anyone can make music with it.  The only thing required, besides and iDevice, is a healthy portion of creativity.  Enjoy.
  • Galactic Gunner - Grab it while it’s hot, as this one won’t be free for long, likely only today.  It’s a 3D space shooter with great graphics. It may not have real physics, but it makes it up for it in fun.

It is not quite free (99 cents) but my daughter has been playing a cute little app called Little Cook all week and she absolutely loves it. The game lets you make any of a selection of meals and then the player gets to put in all sorts of ingredients - some that belong in the meal, some that don’t - and then the finished product is given to a a feisty little food critic to taste. The most fun part of the game is hearing all of the critics responses to the various meals. It’s a really great looking and sounding game that I think a lot of kids would love. How come I can’t find any info about it on this site?
