Free Apps roundup for May 8th, 2009

Free Apps roundupAnother fantastic week on the App Store. I don’t recall any huge announcements or amazing treasures, but there sure were a lot of decent and useful apps and games. I’m sure you’ll find at least one app to grab in the list that follows.

  • myWireless Mobile on AT&T - Checking your remaining minutes or messages or whatever is kind of a pain with the iPhone until now. AT&T released this app this week, and it’s pretty awesome. It makes it easy to check your bill, plan details and even add features that will make your bill go up! Though, if you check out that screen capture, I’m sure you’ll find the most interesting thing to be how the bill is only $7.12 this month, and $10 last month for the iPhone in question. I want that bill…please?
  • Digital Sound Meter - Check the sound levels around you using your iPhone’s built in mic, or the mic on the headphones that you may or may not have. This will be useful for some people, but you might want to be more concerned about how loud your headphones are, as that will damage your hearing much quicker in most cases.
  • Cooking Mama Lite - Cooking Mama has always been a favorite of mine, and as much as I’d like to sit here and type about it, I’m going to refrain because Kirk already nailed it out of the park with his review, so check it out.
  • Dropship Lite - Finally, a lite version of Dropship for all to try out. This game is a lot like Geometry Wars, so if you like that, you’ll like this. Give it a try!
  • iHum FREE Music Humming Game - Put your music knowledge to the test, along with your humming ability. There are over 300 songs in this free version to help you and your friends look like idiots for hours on end, though I’m not completely certain that you need help…jk.
  • Balloon Game - It’s kind of like bubble wrap, the sound of popping balloons on your iPhone, that is. Well, it’s a bit scarier, but still fun, and free.
