Free apps roundup for March 5th, 2010

Gibson guitar appWow, there were a ton of free apps this week new to the App Store. Lots of camera utilities. Thankfully, there’s more. Why don’t you check out my list?

  • Gibson Learn & Master Guitar Application - What a title! Gibson is known for great guitars, but a great guitar does not a great song make (not alone, anyway).  So, they’re trying to get you motivated to get better at playing that six string.  This app comes with a Chromatic Tuner with alternate tunings, a metronome to keep you on time, a chord library and some free video lessons from Steve Krenz. Plus, the app has a very appealing interface. This is a definite download for any guitar players (or wannabes) out there.
  • Boxed FREE - A fresh take on the four color connect and remove style of games. This one has you drawing a square with all four corners landing on the same color anywhere on the screen.  Then all of the blocks in between vanish.  I like the idea. Plus, it’s OpenFeint enabled, always a good thing.
  • Note Recorder Free - This app one-ups other audio recording apps by letting you draw notes along with the recordings. And it’s synced, so you can scrub back through your notes and listen to what was going on while you were scribbling. Your iPhone might be a bit small for this sort of task, but you can zoom in and out, and who knows, this might prove more useful on an iPad in the future.
  • UrbanCompass Lite - Want to find a bar or restaurant within walking distance?  Sure, you could open up Maps and find your way there, but why when you can do it in style with UrbanCompass?  It drops a pin on your map, displays distance remaining and a giant compass to point you in the right direction. It’s all centered around walking, so it’s probably not the app to use while driving, but it does look like a fun way to find your way to a restaurant.
  • Freecell Solitaire Games Free - A free game of freecell solitaire. Nothing more, nothing less.
  • Shutter Cam - This app lets you takes images with your iPhone in a burst-like mode.  You can automatically take between 2 and 5 pictures just by hitting the shutter button once. Nice.
  • Camera Fun! - Taking pics with your iPhone is great, but perhaps this is a bit boring for you.  A little too bland perhaps?  This app gives you some filters to play with.  Turn your images into sketches, x-rays, make it sepia, neon, canvas etc.  This app may or may not be free by the time you click that link, so hurry.
  • iControlAVR - The only app that allows you to take full control of Pioneer’s brand new line of AV Receivers with your iDevice. There are a lot of things you can control here, if only one of us had one of Pioneer’s newest receivers we could tell you just how awesome it must be.
  • Bleep Button - Now I’m positive that you have enough dirt in your mouth to offend a sailor, but I think the real beauty of the bleep button is your ability to use it to unnecessarily censor the most common of words.  There’s just something about bleeping out words that don’t need to be.  The hilarity might ensue, but it’s up to you.
  • Touch Pets Dogs GO - I know you might be getting sick of my need to keep posting every Touch Pet flavor, but I just can’t resist virtual pets, sorry.  This one is themed with Alice in Wonderland in mind.  How fitting, seeing as the screen of your iDevice is covered in glass… that you have to look through…
