Free Apps roundup for March 27th, 2009

by Jake Gaecke on Mar 27, 2009 at 10:21 PM

BowmanWhat a week! I don’t know about you, but this has been a crazy week, and the App Store saw at least some of that insanity. There were a bunch of notable apps and games to be launched completely free of charge. My personal favorite being an old, free, online Flash game called Bowman. The concept is simple, but the execution is perfect. See what I did there? Check it out along with all the other great freebies this week.

  • Bowman - If you’ve ever played this game online before, then you know just how badly you need to download it for your iPhone. This game will take hours from your life that you’ll never get back. But that’s okay, they are hours well spent shooting arrows at your opponent until he bleeds to death. What, is there something wrong with that? UPDATE: At the time of writing this was free, now it has increased to $.99 and will increase again soon to $1.99. But it’s still a good deal.
  • Travel Conundrum - Hey look, a free game that isn’t a restricted version of its paid bigger brother!  It’s a word game where you build words letter by letter.  Sounds fun, though I’m not sure how much I trust a word game that “definnitely” can’t spell (check the description).
  • Wallr Lite - Your iPhone can select any image for a background, but if you don’t have a super sweet one like I do, then you’ll need to hunt down something on your own.  Harness the power of Flickr through this app and find something nice for yourself.
  • Sheepstacker Lite - I don’t know why, but I always seem to like things with sheep in them.  You could do much worse than waste your weekend stacking sheep.  See, I made it all the way through a sheep story without telling even one baaaaaad joke…shucks.
  • I-play 3D Bowling Lite - It’s a 3D acceleromter-based bowling game.  You can even curve the ball.  Just don’t act like you’re playing Wii, otherwise you might just end up with a broken iPhone and a broken TV.  Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
  • Match.com - Looking for love?  I won’t claim you’ll find it here, but who knows.  They claim more than 15 million singles use their service, but I’m not sure how they define “use” or “singles.”
  • Deek’s Duck Hunt Lite - I always had a hard time as a kid picking between Mario and Duck Hunt.  Here’s a similar game in 3D.  It’s not the same, but I’m sure it will bring back some good memories.
  • Coupious - Not only will it find coupons for you to save money at local estabilshments, it will actually update the deals based on what’s close by. Then, just pick your deals and show your iPhone to the cashier.  Just don’t believe them when they say they need a physical copy of the coupon, that’s just a punk trying to steal your iPhone.
