Free Apps roundup for June 5th, 2009

Free Apps roundup for June 5th, 2009More quality free apps you say? In the words of Li’l Jon, “Okay!” I can do that. Check out this week’s list. You might be surprised what you’ll find, as there were quite a few gems released.

  • PewPew - This is your favorite church app…wait. Sorry. I meant to say… why pay for other Geometry Wars style games when you can get PewPew. It uses the dual virtual joysticks control scheme that many other games use. Expect more updates to be coming to this excellent freebie.
  • Erno’s Cube - It used to be $1, but now it’s free. And since I finally completed a life-long goal of being able to solve a Rubik’s cube without any help this past week, I want to push it in just a little.  Okay, so it’s not that amazing of a skill, but it’s fun. Have at it.
  • WikiAround - If it’s not on Wikipedia, it’s probably not true, right?  I’m pretty sure that Wikipedia is the source of “truth” for most of us.  I’m hoping that’s a good thing.  Either way, this app formats Wikipedia for your iPhone and allows GPS based searching.  Now say, “Thank you.”
  • Wiki2Go - Since you said thank you, you have another free choice that does exatly the same thing, though I tend to think it doesn’t look as nice, and being an Apple person might make you superficial.
  • Lipton: Spot It! - You know the drill, spot the differences between the two images.  This one is sponsored by both National Geographic and Lipton, because nothing goes better together than tea and exotic animals.
  • iDict - This is not a dictionary.  It is, however, a translation assistant.  You’ll need an internet connection, but you’ll be able to translate to and from 40 completely different languages, as opposed to 40 languages that are completely the same.  It’s based off of Google’s translation API, so you know it’s not awful.
