Free Apps roundup for July 31st, 2009
While you still can’t have hard drive mode with your iPhone (yet?), there’s a new option for you as long as you have MobileMe. It’s the MobileMe iDisk app that was released by Apple this week. But don’t fret, I’ve found a number of awesome apps this week that are 100% free, no strings attached.
- MobileMe iDisk - Why is there no hard drive mode for the iPhone? Because Apple can sell it to you! At least they don’t charge for the iPhone app, and if you already have MobileMe, you might as well download this, which allows you to access your iDisk anywhere you have an internet connection. I suspect this is as close as Apple is going to get to an iPhone hard drive mode without a third party app. If you don’t like the idea of paying for this yearly, you might consider FarFinder, which I reviewed not too long ago and loved.
- Voice Tweety - Here’s a great and free way to audibly tell the world what you are doing at this very instant. Plus, you know it’s cool, because it uses Twitter, and only cool people use Twitter. You’re a cool person, right?
- iSnitch - The iPhone already has a voice recording app, but it won’t help you discreetly steal audio. This will. Catch someone in the act of saying something they shouldn’t, or ever just when you’re not there. I’m sure there are a ton of really awful uses for this. I almost feel sorry for those who don’t know about this app on your iPhone.
- Total Pong - Pong. Just pure, plain, original Pong. Nothing more. Nothing less. You can play against the computer or two player ad-hoc. Enjoy.
- Bluetooth Chat - Initially I thought this app was completely useless. It allows you to chat over bluetooth (ie within 30 feet or so) with anyone else also using the app. But then I realized this could be great for chatting in a library or across class without needing text messaging.
- Mosaica - This app recently dropped its price to free, but I’m not sure how long it will last, so grab it while it’s hot! It’s a 3D panorama making app that is pretty awesome. Honestly, it’s a pretty cool app at its normal price of a single dollar, which it might be by the time you read this. Mosaics may be viewed on your iPhone, with a web browser or even shared on Twitter.
- The Oregon Trail FREE - Sadly this one’s not a price drop, though I wish it were. I spent many hours as a youth playing the original Oregon Trail, and that’s a good enough reason for you to at least spend a few minutes playing this on your iPhone. I still wish there was an “original” mode.
