Free Apps roundup for February 12th, 2010
It’s another great week for iDevice apps. But really, what week isn’t? This week it’s all about Siri, your new personal assistant. It will find movie times, make restaurant reservations, and even help you buy tickets for whenever your favorite band is coming to town. And all you have to do is tell it what you want, verbally. But don’t worry, I have more than just Siri below, so take a look and download some new apps and or games.
- Siri Assistant - Remember how cool Dragon’s voice recognition apps were, I mean are? Siri is like that, only possibly better. This app gives you what you ask for literally. You can ask it about restaurants, movies, events and more. It only works on the iPhone 3GS, but if you have one, you have to try this app. I love showing this one off to people who are already impressed with the iPhone. All you have to do is say something like “What restaurants are good around here” and it will find the best rated restaurants within walking distance (based on GPS). You can even make reservations at some of the results. Seriously, do yourself a favor and download this one, if you have an iPhone 3GS that is.
- Word Scramble 2 - The best free game of the week…no, the month. This is basically Boggle, though I think it’s actually better. The only real differences are that it recognizes your input better than Boggle, but doesn’t jumble the letters up by shaking like Boggle. I think it’s a fair trade. I paid for Boggle, but I prefer this game. Plus, this game can actually hook up with Facebook so you can compete with your friends for high scores. I love it!
- The Oscars - The official app of the 2010 Oscars! It has the complete nominee list along with trailers and info for each. You can make your own predictions and then share them over Facebook, Twitter and email. It even keeps track of your picks against others using the app. If you like movies, like really like movies, then you need this one.
- DropCopy Lite - This app makes sharing files between your Macs and iDevices easy. The way this app is different from the others that are very similar is that it can share between iDevices sans computers. The full version can also share your clipboard from your Mac to your iDevice. Nifty, but the free version is still pretty useful.
- Monster Kill - Free for today only. This is a 3D game where you cast spells to kill monsters. It hooks up to OpenFeint to keep track of your game playing and progress. I love OpenFeint. Anyway, this looks pretty cute, but it’s only free today, so quick go download it!
- SteamPunk Hockey - Another freebie for just today. The kids, they like their steampunk, or so I’m told. It’s like air hockey, with a different style. It also hooks up to OpenFeint.
