Free Apps roundup for December 26, 2008

Free Apps Roundup for December 26, 2008We’re coming up on the end of 2008, and what a year it has been. Thanks to the introduction of the App Store, and some amazing developers, I’ve been able to provide a list of noteworthy free apps ever week. For this, I am thankful.

And just like clockwork, here is this weeks list, the last for the year 2008.

Thanks for reading.

  • Mint.com - Probably one of the coolest financial websites I’ve stumbled across in recent history. At first, it sounds a little scary, all of your financial information in one place—bank accounts, credit cards, bills etc.—but it’s really not as bad as it sounds. Mint does not have the ability to move any funds, and it doesn’t know your bank account numbers. What it can do is track all of your spending habit, create budgets, and help show you where all of that money is going. It’s free, and it’s all available in your pocket.
  • Track BAC - New Years is coming up, and for many of you, there will be alcohol involved. Track BAC will give you an estimate of your current blood alcohol level. But remember, this is pretty much for entertainment purposes only…be safe.
  • AccuWeather.com - It could be wrong every time you check it, but for some reason, we all want to know what the weather is going to be like in the future. AccuWeather is a great app for checking the weather, and it’s got a ton of features that attempt to replace walking outside tomorrow and opening your eyes.
  • Foggle Lite - It’s like having Boggle on your iPhone, kind of. This app recreates the dice, board and timer of Boggle, but won’t record your words or scores. You have three minutes to find as many words as possible on the board. It’s a healthy mix of iPhone and the real world.
  • Checkers Free - Here’s another free checkers game for the iPhone, and it looks great. It supports 1 or 2 players, undo, numerous levels of difficulty and it auto saves your game. The only downside is the “unobtrusive” ad banner at the bottom.
  • Powerboat Challenge Lite - Start up your powerboat and race away in this free version of a paid racing game. There are three tracks and three game types for you to choose from to get a taste of what the full game has to offer.
  • SteadyCam - Shaky hands? This app is made to reduce the effects of shaky hands on unsuspecting pictures. You press the shutter button and the app takes a picture just as soon as you stop shaking it enough for it to think/shoot straight.
