Free apps roundup for December 18th, 2009

by Jake Gaecke on Dec 18, 2009 at 02:15 PM

Last week’s list was pretty awesome, but I think you’ll enjoy this week’s list, too. I have another speech driven app from Nuance, a few games, and more. Plus, this week, the App Store saw a facelift. So, when you’re clicking away down below to download all these great apps, stop for a second and admire (or become irritated with) the new design.

Skies of Glory
  • Dragon Search - Nuance is at it again with a search utility based on voice technology.  Just tell it what you want and it will search the internet for you without you ever touching a tiny virtual keyboard.  It even has an innovative search engine carousel that allows you to quickly and easily specify whether you’d like to search with Google, YouTube, Twitter, Wikipedia, or even iTunes.  This one is not free forever, so grab it now!
  • Skies of Glory - Another game, not unlike Touch Pets, that gives you a full game for free and charges for add ons.  It’s full-on 3D dogfighting action in the WWII style.  The game features 8 player combat over the internet, so you can fight other iDevice users across the globe.  This is likely the best flight combat sim you’ll find on the App Store sans charge.
  • Moodagent - This app will create a 25 song playlist using your own music library and the mood you’re either in, would like to be in, or enjoy lying about.  You’ll need an Internet connection, but that’s likely not a problem.  Free for a limited time, so click soon.
  • Tweet Desk - I wouldn’t call this a full on Twitter client, but it is a great way to utilize your iPhone’s screen while not in normal use.  This app will display one tweet in large text along with the time and an icon.  You don’t even need a twitter account, but who doesn’t have one?
  • Xeemote - You guys like your Boxee media center, so why not control it with an iPhone app chock full of style?  It’s a pretty basic Boxee remote, but it’s in the steampunk style…and I’ve already lost a few of you to the download link.
  • Flock Control Lite - You control the dogs, who in turn control the sheep.  No, the sheep don’t have Serta numbers on them, though I like to imagine they do.  Just get the sheep into their pens already.
  • CVS Photo - Pretty much the same as the Walgreen’s photo app, only you drive to CVS when you’re done!
