Fake Steve Jobs banned from CNBC. Or not. Or…yes! Wait…no.

by Kirk Hiner on Jan 15, 2009 at 06:04 PM

Dan LyonsEarlier today, Silicon Alley Insider ran a report that Newsweek’s Dan Lyons—aka “Fake Steve Jobs”—has been banned from CNBC for life because of an appearance he made on the network earlier today in which he got into a heated discussion with CNBC’s Jim Goldman over Steve Jobs’ health and how Apple handled the announcement. Silicon Alley Insider then posted an updated saying that CNBC claims they have not banned Lyons. Then they posted an update saying a source close to the situation believes Lyons has been banned. Check the video, and draw your own conclusions.

I say the two of them should just meet out at the willow tree after school and settle this like men.

The two apparently have been taking different sides on Apple’s disclosures on Steve’s health for quite some time, and it came to head a couple weeks ago when Gizmodo ran a report from a “source” (Lyons) who stated that Apple CEO Steve Jobs’ health is declining rapidly. Goldman rebutted pretty harshly, defending Apple and basically calling the report garbage.

And now, we’ve got the video above. It doesn’t really seem to be that big of deal. Certainly not Rosie O’Donnell heated, and it’s nothing compared the fight Appletell writer Bill Stiteler and I had in San Francisco last week over Star Wars and George Carlin, but I guess we don’t get paid enough to actually get banned from something. Regardless, it’s always a good time watching the pros flex their muscles. Has Lyons actually been banned from CNBC because of this? I guess we’ll find out soon enough, and I’ll probably care even less then than I do now.
