EV Nova for Mac OS X updated to Universal Binary

by Kirk Hiner on Dec 30, 2008 at 07:30 PM

EV NovaAmbrosia Software, Inc. has announced today an update to its classic space-based strategy shooter, EV Nova. EV Nova 1.1.0 is a Universal Binary that runs natively on Intel Macs, and continues to work on any Mac running Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later. In addition to being a Universal Binary, it includes the obligatory bug fixes and enhancements, including compatibility with MacBook and MacBook Air systems with an Intel GMA X3100 video card.

EV Nova is the third game in the Escape Velocity series, and is by far the most ambitious installment to date. With a completely redesigned gaming engine, EV Nova thrusts you into a sprawling universe dominated by a myriad of warring factions, each sharing a common bond, but so philosophically different as to make conflict inevitable.

It is within this maelstrom of territorial contention that you find yourself, like a pebble tumbling aimlessly between the tectonic fault lines that uncomfortably separate these divisions of humanity. Welcome to EV Nova. Will the pebble become an avalanche?

In his review of the game from 2002 (yes, it’s that old), Peter Cohen of Macworld claimed, “Mixing 2-D action in the form of spaceship battles with adventure gaming is a really appealing combination that’s already proven itself in two previous incarnations of the Escape Velocity series, and it works again here.”

EV Nova v1.1 is a free updated to registered users running Mac OS X. The game retails for $30, and a 30-day free trial is available.
