Does anyone think Kevin Rose’s predictions are for real?

I think Kevin Rose just has fun stirring up the rumor mills for fun. There’s just no way any of this stuff he’s spewing has merit. If he’s right, it’s a complete fluke. Let’s start from the top.
New iPod nanos: Has anyone looked at the picture accompanying this rumor? It seals the deal for either this being fake or Apple having lost their mind. It’s horrifically ugly. Of course, that was said about the iMac aluminum, and the iPod nano, so let’s think practicality. The screen is covered by a curved piece of glass. The actual screen, though, would be flat, meaning that the glass will distort the image on the screen quite a bit. Plus, do you think Apple is really going to go back to a form factor that they’ve already used, and that the Zune is currently using? Me, neither.
“But, wait!” you might say. “There are cases made for this design.” Well, supposedly, yes. But firstly, isn’t it a bit suspicious that they were revealed right after Rose’s post? And why would Apple reveal its designs beforehand to something as lowly as a case-maker? It doesn’t work out.
iPod Price Drops: Kind of obvious, as this usually happens anyway. If anyone credits Rose with this when this happens, they have some considering to do. Most people, myself included, have already predicted this iPod price drop: “The iPod Touch would probably drop to $149, which would mean the iPod nanos could drop to $49 for the 4GB, $99 for the 16GB. Then the shuffles could be bumped off.” This might be going a little cheaper than Apple will, but point is, Rose isn’t saying anything new here.
iPod touch to come with 2.1, iPhone to get it later: Uh, duh. Except that when the iPod touch comes out, 2.1 will be available for iPhone.
iTunes 8: A “big update” with “big features.” Ok, Rosie…we’ll look for that. This one just sounds like a shot in the dark. It’s possible he knows something, but once again, with no details, I won’t credit him if it happens.
Do you think he’s full of hot air or full of connections? Sound off in the comments.

First of all, people rarely have all the details in line when they make predictions like this. iTunes 8 may surface, and iPods may be reduced in price, but I don’t think the iPod Nanos will be updated
Secondly, I will never buy an Apple product ever again in this lifetime or the next if the rumored iPod Nanos are as they have been rumored to be. They are the most god-awful thing EVER. And I thought that Apple was leaning away from the Long-And-Slender design? Is that not the reason why the Nano looks like it does now? And personally, I think the current Nanos are pretty pretty. Especially in green.
on August 26, 2008 at 08:44 PM - LINKI agree! No way is Apple going to make an ugly iPod like the rumor suggests. The rumor I am hoping is true is the MacBook and MacBook Pro updates. I am holding off on buying a MacBook in the hopes that the new case designs and glass trackpad rumors are true.
