Rumors of iPhone OS 4.0 features emerge

by Josh Holat on Jan 19, 2010 at 06:39 PM

iPhone and AppsSetting aside all possibilites of whether there even is a new version of the iPhone software to be released later this month, Boy Genius Report has details on what it will entail. According to their sources, this update brings some exciting new information. For one, multi touch gestures will be OS-wide on the device. However, even more exciting is the possibility of a “few new ways” to run applications in the background (for those of you wondering, this means multitasking!). While fully fledged multitasking may be a stretch, I can see some sort of update to this area of the operating system on top of push notifications. Furthermore, there will be many graphical and UI changes to make overall navigation of the device improved.

On top of those updates, there is also the possibility of some sort of improved contacts and calendar syncing. Lastly, this update may also only be for the iPhone 3G and 3GS, which is unfortunate for first gen iPhone users. This may seem a little strange, but it’s probably just part of Apple’s obsession with controlling how well their software runs on their devices. We all need to update at some point, right?
