DataCase - iPhone file server and viewer delayed for a bugless release

by Jake Gaecke on Jul 29, 2008 at 02:29 PM

Veiosoft's DataCaseOriginally, Veiosoft was slated to release their app DataCase July 28th. They’ve since decided to utilize Apple’s App Store Beta testing service. The service allows Veiosoft to release their app to 100 iPhones for testing, in order to avoid any bugs in the official release next week.

DataCase is a tool to wirelessly access the storage space on your iPhone or iPod Touch. The beauty of the app is that you don’t need any special uploading programs. The device shows up in the Finder under the Shared section, and allows you to drag and drop your files to and from your device. Heaven forbid you might be forced into using a PC, fret not. The app works with any computer that is connected to your wireless network.

DataCase also functions as a viewer for your documents. You can browse directories, sort by file types, search file names, and view PDFs, Microsoft Office files, TXTs and more.

Delays normally sadden me, but, in this case, they’re doing it for the good of all. With all of the bugs in new apps, you’re likely to have experienced the pain of apps crashing left and right.

Veiosoft expects the beta period to be short, and plans to release the full app next week.

I just wish they could somehow replace the USB cable completely and sync the iPhone or iPod Touch over WiFi or Bluetooth. While I continue to dream, check out Veiosoft’s website for full details about DataCase.
