Let me start off by saying that the “Creative Safari” has absolutely nothing to do with the Safari browser. I think someone somewhere could have come up with a better name that would not be so confusing to some people. What it does have to do with is digital photography and videography.
The CS1 track is all about beginner digital photography. Lesa Snider King will be taking everyone on a journey through the various pieces of the puzzle with regard to shooting, editing, and publishing photos. I think this track would be perfect for someone like my wife who just got a new DSLR camera for Christmas. I can’t speak for everyone, of course, but for me, learning is a hands-on kind of thing. I could read the manual four times and not learn as much as I would from just pushing buttons and seeing what happens. I think this track is a great match of the two and a great beginners’ course for everyone who is looking to get more out of their camera.
The CS2 track is hosted by Steve Simon who is a renowned photographer. You can check his work out here [stevesimonphoto.com]. In this track, Steve is going to take a look at some advance techniques. The best part of CS2? Real world application. Part of the track is going to require that you go outside the Moscone Center in San Francisco and take some photos. It is encouraged that people step outside their “comfort zones” and shoot anything and everything that inspires them. Steve will then go through some workflows and editing magic with Apple’s Aperture. Sounds like a lot of fun.
The CS3 track is all about video. The cool part about it is that you can bring your own footage to work with during the track. Final Cut Studio master trainer Steve Martin of Ripple Training and producer/director Brian Gary will be providing a “boot camp” of editing and evaluating footage you bring to the class.
The Creative Safari at MacWorld Expo sounds like a lot of fun for people who are into photography and home movie production. Check it out.
