CheckUp: Monitor the health of your Mac
A few months ago, we reported on the release of CheckUp 1.0 from app4mac, a health monitoring application for our Macs. Now, we bring you good news with the most recent version of this useful program.
For those of you who already know the application, the first two features to notice are the refreshed UI (User Interface) and the price drop. When it came out, CheckUp cost $49; a reasonable price for a well-designed application created to help you keep your Mac in shape, which is not an irrelevant task for anyone who appreciates his computer.
Now, we’ve found an updated version for just $29. It’s a nice price drop, which makes it even more desirable for those of you who wanted to wait, or just decided to pass the first time it came out.
Some of the new features of this app are:
- New Wi-fi-Network detector with signal level
- Updated user interface
- Bug fixes
- English, French, Chinese, Italian versions
- Lower price (now $29 for two computers instead of $49)
The top 10 features of the application, according to its website, are:
- Uses a very simple interface to browse your Mac’s technical information
- Surveys your Mac’s health and your disks in real time
- Monitors the used and available space on your disks
- Uninstalls unused applications and related files to save space on your hard disk
- Checks the memory and teaches you how to improve your Mac’s performance
- Displays detailed information about all processes and can pause on terminate them
- Monitors each processor’s usage
- Sets up alerts for the processors, the disks and the network
- Displays a graph to help you visualize the amount of used network bandwidth
- Wi-fi network detector integrated with signal level
As with back-ups, monitoring the health of your computer is always an important activity to do, yet most of us never involve it in our user habits. With CheckUp, you can take care of your Mac like a professional, with most of the important technical areas covered in an easy-to-use interface. If you add its low price to the equation, CheckUp is a must-own, and I hope we see improved versions of it in the near future.

I suppose this might be useful for some, but it seemed over priced to me for what it has to offer.
