Canada to get first Apple Flagship Retail Store

by Greg Healy on Aug 17, 2007 at 01:51 PM

Montreal Flagship Store LocationApple has recently acquired a lease for a building in the heart of Montreal’s shopping district. The building, which is currently a MENS fashion retailer, will become home to Canada’s first high-profile Apple flagship store once the retailer vacates the premises. That will bring the total of Apple Retail Stores in Canada up to 5 (compared to 149 in the U.S.). I think it is safe to say that we in Canada are not getting much retail store love as those 5 stores are situated in only 2 provinces.

In November when Apple has full reign of the property, they are planning on making some big changes to it’s appearance. AppleInsider reports that Apple is planning to replace the roof, and add a stainless steel exterior. The store will be 2 stories with a trademark glass staircase connecting the two floors. One renovation that AppleInsider didn’t report on is Steve Jobs plan to replace the tag in this photo (top left) with his own seen here.

The building located on 1321 Ste-Catherine Ouest looks perfectly suited to be Canada’s first flagship store with a spacious interior and large display windows on both floors. There is no word yet on when construction of the store will be completed.
