Can Apple keep a secret anymore?

by Josh Holat on Feb 19, 2009 at 10:04 PM

Apple RumorsApple specific websites and RSS feeds these days are full of rumors and photos of potential Apple products and updates. Yet, a lot of people like to believe that Apple is a secretive company that rarely lets out any information whatsoever.  For example, who would’ve thought that Apple was going to release a multi-touch phone that would one day become one of the most popular phones on the planet? However, when you think about it, it may be true that it is getting harder and harder for Apple to keep secrets nowadays.

With more popularity and increasing sales, Apple is becoming more prominent every day. And with notice, comes followers. With the increased amount of people interested in Apple news, there are more people ready to either a.) use inside sources to get a good rumor, or b.) make something up to get the Apple crowd excited and talking. I mean, who isn’t in the mood for a good rumor every once in a while? Many of these rumors are turning out to be true, as many people have found trustworthy sources inside of Apple to get their information from. Although it can be fun and interesting to hear inside news and speculate about it, it can also be bad in some ways. For example, uniformed people may believe the rumor and not like it, thus bringing bad PR to Apple.

The point is that Apple has become a larger company recently, and that has made it harder for them to keep their secrets as there are plenty of people out there willing to do anything to get the news only hours before the rest of us. It has been sort of interesting to see how this has turned out for both Apple and all of the people involved in breaking the news. What are you thoughts?
