Boxee to be open alpha January 8th

by Jake Gaecke on Dec 24, 2008 at 10:50 AM

BoxeeBoxee has proven itself to be one of the most popular closed alpha applications. It started as a flavor of XBMC only on the Mac. Since then, it’s made its way to the AppleTV, and has added support for Hulu and so many other online media sources. The only real problem with Boxee thus far has been its closed alpha status, but that’s about to change.

It’s understandable; since the program is still alpha, it’s not expected to work perfectly. The developers have also wanted to gradually scale their servers to handle the program. But its popularity has been bothering the developers to open it up to everyone, and that’s exactly what they are going to do on January 8th, 2009. As an added bonus, they’re working hard to mail out invites before December 25th for all non-windows users who’ve signed up for an invite. Happy holidays.
