Blu-Ray coming to MacBook Pros soon?
With HD DVD dead, we can all safely move to Blu-Ray. One company that hasn’t, is Apple. Apple signed up for Blu-ray about 3 years ago, but hasn’t done anything with it yet. The format war is over, so will Apple move to the Blu-Ray format? Apple Insider has made a very surprising prediction that Apple will place the drives into MacBook Pros.
Apple had hoped to offer a Blu-ray option alongside its just-released Penryn-based MacBook Pros, but Sony has faced some quality issues pertaining to the slot-loading mechanism and laser in the SuperDrives. Apple was reportedly offered Blu-ray Combo drives in the meantime, which it turned down.
Another reason Apple may have not taken advantage of this technology may have been because of the battery life. It’s hard to say whether Apple will promote physical media with all the recent updates and sales/rentals of HD movies right from iTunes.

I had hoped for Blu-Ray when I just bought my MBP this week, but it’s not that big of a deal to me. It would have been nice, but I don’t really watch movies on here and if I did, I could just rent them from iTunes. What I would use is a Blu-Ray burner in here, if, you know, the discs didn’t cost $20 a pop.
