Belkin apologizes for fake reviewers ads

by Bill Stiteler on Jan 20, 2009 at 03:05 PM

belkin reviews ad

Arlen Parsa, writer for The Daily Background, gave Belkin—popular maker of computer peripherals and cables—a big ol’ PR black-eye on Friday. She discovered a job ad on Mechanical Turk, a site where “... people can go, register, and get paid to do little tasks that computers can’t do (like help image filtering software identify graphic search results, for example).”

What Parsa found was that someone had placed an ad looking for people to register on review websites to give a Belkin router “100% rating (as high as possible).” Parsa did a little digging and found that the person who placed the ad was likely a business development rep at Belkin.

Oops.

After what I’m sure was a looooong weekend at Belkin, Parsa finally got the expected response from the company, full of apologies and statements that they’re investigating the matter, etc., etc.

    Hi,

I know this has nothing to do with what you guy’s are talking about here but I need to share.

Last night I attempt to buy an item for my computer using my debit card and the card just didn’t work, then I try using my credit card and it didn’t went work either. At the end I just stop trying.

Saturday morning I receive a call from my bank reporting that someone try to do a payment of $687 with my debit card to a T-mobile account in California ( and I live in NYC and don’t use T-mobile)

So, be careful with this Belkin website.
