A price war has begun in Australia between Telstra’s BigPond Music and Apple’s iTunes, and that can only lead to good for consumers. With BigPond offering 50% off prepaid music vouchers through Big W and Woolworth and Apple selling $50 iTunes vouchers for only $30, Aussies are already benefiting from this “war.” Although Teltra’s price cut is larger by 10%, Apple’s iTunes has the benefit of being compatible with the very popular iPod player, while Telstra’s BigPond only works with Microsfot based players. As expected, Apple hasn’t commented on anything about this whole situation.
If you want to get ahold of this deal, BigPond is offering it until July 31st, whereas iTunes is only offering theirs until June 25th, so hurry up and get your discounts. Peter Habib from Telstra says, “We hope this offer will not only reward our existing customers who love the BigPond pre-paid service, but also attract new customers to what we believe to be Australia’s leading online music, games and movies-rental shop.” A 50% discount sure is a good way to get new customers. I would love to get one of those here in the states (please, Apple?).
