AT&T has a voice command software application in the works for Apple’s iPhone. Based on their WATSON speech recognition engine, it uses Speech Mashups that call upon the entire web for their information. Although it won’t work for voice dialing, it will work for other neat actions. The downside? I don’t believe this is meant to be fully featured voice command software, which is kind of a shame.
Although it is not at all what you would expect (voice control for the entire iPhone), it is a first step. Hopefully, Apple will comes to their senses and realize how much their customers want fully featured voice command software, because I’m sure there are a few companies willing to make some nice apps for it. And with new laws in states like California that require drivers to use hands free headsets, many people will absolutely need voice dialing in their cars. Please, Apple?
