AT&T sues Verizon over “there’s a map for that” advertisements

Verizon first attacked Apple’s iPhone via an advertisement for the new Motorola Droid phone they will be selling this month. Then, they proceeded to attack the iPhone’s carrier, AT&T, with their “there’s a map for that” advertisements. While Apple didn’t take any sort of action against Verizon that we know of, it appears as if AT&T isn’t going to stand for it. According to Engadget, they have taken action through complaint letters and are now suing Verizon for their advertisements.
AT&T’s complaint said this about the issue:
In essence, we believe the ads mislead consumers into believing that AT&T doesn’t offer ANY wireless service in the vast majority of the country. In fact, AT&T’s wireless network blankets the US, reaching approximately 296M people. Additionally, our 3G service is available in over 9,600 cities and towns. Verizon’s misleading advertising tactics appear to be a response to AT&T’s strong leadership in smartphones. We have twice the number of smartphone customers… and we’ve beaten them two quarters in a row on net post-paid subscribers. We also had lower churn—a sign that customers are quite happy with the service they receive.
The real problem here was that although AT&T may not have as expansive a 3G network, they do have a 2G network that covers a much broader area than shown in the advertisements maps. Apparently Verizon has already changed some of the wording on their ads to make AT&T a little more happy, but it doesn’t appear as if they will be fully content until these ads either stop airing or take into account their whole network. I can’t wait to see what ends up happening here.

“but it doesn’t appear as if they will be fully content until these ads either stop airing or take into account their whole network”
But from what I can see the advert isn’t meant to be comparing the whole network. From the screenshot of the advert above, it is clearly comparing 3G ONLY on both networks. With everyone after the faster speed of 3G compared to 2G, isn’t that what counts?
We have had similar comparison maps in the UK from Ofcom, which compare 3G only, and we are not happy that O2 has one of the lowest coverage. I don’t care about EDGE/2G, I want 3G!
